What Is Palo Santo?
Palo Santo, meaning "Holy Wood" in Spanish, is a sacred tree native to the dry forests of Peru, Ecuador and parts of South America. For generations, it has been valued for its distinctive woody aroma and its place in traditional rituals, where it has been used to create moments of reflection, intention and connection with nature.
At ELMNT Earth, we believe ritual doesn't have to be elaborate. Sometimes it's simply taking a quiet moment before the day begins, pausing after work, or creating a peaceful atmosphere at home. Palo Santo has long been part of these mindful practices, offering a warm, grounding fragrance that encourages presence.
Where Does Palo Santo Come From?
Authentic Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) grows naturally in the tropical dry forests of Peru and neighbouring regions. The tree is never harvested while alive for traditional use. Instead, only wood from naturally fallen branches and trees that have rested for several years is collected, allowing the aromatic oils to develop over time.
ELMNT Earth proudly sources its Palo Santo incense from Huanchaco, Peru, where skilled artisans handcraft each stick using traditional techniques passed down through generations. By working directly with experienced makers, we support ethical production while sharing the craftsmanship and heritage behind every ritual.
What Does Palo Santo Smell Like?
Palo Santo has a rich, distinctive aroma that is unlike ordinary incense.
You may notice notes of:
- Warm wood
- Soft citrus
- Gentle resin
- Earthy sweetness
- A subtle hint of mint
The fragrance is calming without being overpowering, making it ideal for everyday rituals, meditation, reading, yoga or simply slowing down after a busy day.
How to Burn Palo Santo Incense
Our artisanal Palo Santo incense is designed to be enjoyed at your own pace.
- Break the stick into your preferred size.
- Light the end for 10–20 seconds.
- Gently blow out the flame.
- Allow the fragrant smoke to fill your space.
- Place the incense in a suitable heatproof holder while it slowly burns.
Each stick burns for approximately 45 minutes, and because it can be broken into smaller pieces, a single stick can become several mindful rituals.
Why Choose ELMNT Earth?
Every ELMNT Earth incense stick is handcrafted in Huanchaco, Peru using naturally aged Palo Santo wood and traditional artisan techniques.
Our incense contains:
